DIY Soccerballs (using old plastic bags)

Today I would like to show you how to make soccer balls out of your old plastic bags and newspapers.  I saw the tutorial on the web somewhere, and was fascinated with the idea as I had to make a ball for my Teaching Practical.  This seemed to be the perfect idea.

What you need: old plastic bags, old newspapers and tape.  Firstly, crumple the newspapers into ball like shapes, depending on the size of the balls you would like to have.

Secondly, wrap the plastic bags around the newspaper balls, one by one.  Make sure you pull the plastic bag as tight as possible.

Thirdly, wrap another plastic bag over the previous one, until you reach the desired size.

Finally, you can tape the plastic bags into position, and shape the ball by using the tape.  I used colourful tape to liven up the look of my balls, and to make creative patterns on the balls.

As you can see, you can also use old plastic containers to use as bats, or old newspapers (or in this case, Colour Conference brochures and Woolworths Xmas brochures!!)  Once again use coloured tape or paint to make the bats a bit more fun.

Interesting fact of the day:
Plastic bags and other plastic items take between 10 to 30 years to break down.  When marine life gets entangled in the plastic in the ocean, it can lead to their death.
