You say

              You say I am perfect
                                just the way I am
   I have no balance
and fall on my head
         my webbed toes,
make me hook on the bed
I look cross-eyed at the world
and sleep in plastic bags when its cold

I so hate to cuddle,
still you think I'm your supermodel!

This is how we sometimes feel in life
all messed up, with nothing to give
                   but
God loves us with an unconditional love.

Babies and beyond

I am currently studying a teaching degree, and am fascinated by what I am learning.

For instance, did you know how intricately babies are formed. How they have certain stages to reach and how they then reach these in enriched environments. Especially in a loving environment, where they have many options of things to do, and where they are allowed to choose for themselves. Youngsters learn by playing and exploring, and by using their 5 senses. (see The New learning Revolution, G. Dryden & J. Vos for more information)

Bad kids

I came across this one on Facebook, and just had to share it because it is so true.  Its just easier to call children bad, because then we do not have to deal with the real problems they face, and we - the parents or grownups - can remain in control. Because that is 'so' what they need; someone to control them - so that one day when they are adults, they can deal with the real issues in their childhood life.

Children Learn What They Live

If a child lives with criticism,
He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule,
He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame
He learns to feel guilty.

Living life!

My mission in life is not merely to survive,
BUT TO THRIVE
and to do so with some passion, some compassion,
some humour and some style.

Set for life.

God, the one and only - I'll wait as long as he says.

Everything I need comes from him
so why not?

He's a solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul,
an impregnable castle:  I'm set for life.

Psalm 62:1-2

You're worth it!

God's love is meteoric,
his loyalty astronomic,
His purpose titanic,
his verdicts oceanic.
Yet in his largeness
nothing gets lost;
Not a man, not a mouse,
slips through the cracks.
Psalm 36:5-6

Exercising your body, mind and soul!

'I realised once again,
that you can train your brain.
Think it, and you'll be it!
Do what you can to keep your mind fit.
Forget the fear it isn't even legit.'
                                           by J. Gunter

'Exercise daily in God -
      no spiritual flabbiness, please!
Workouts in the gymnasium are useful,
but a disciplined life in God
is far more so, making you fit
both today and forever.' 1 Timorthy 4:7-8

Your season!

After your season
of suffering,

God
in all his grace
 will restore,
confirm,
strengthen
and
establish
you!

Christmas in July fun

Christmas is a time for fun, family and festivity.
Here is a great idea of spending some quality time with your kids this winter holiday, in preparation for Christmas.
Making beautiful Christmas decorations with your kids would not only be giving them something to do, but also something to remember.
They will remember the fun they had while doing it with you and that you love them enough to spend quality time with them.

I recommend getting arts and craft items that you like at one of the
winter markets around, and just have fun with it.  If everything you need is not included, they should be able to guide you in where to find all the items you need.

Cape Town at a glance

Cape Town, South Africa is known for having four seasons in one day during the winter months, you can expect anything to happen, and it probably will.  It is also known as 'The Cape of storms' and 'The windy city'.  The two photos below were taken while I was walking along the Seapoint promenade last Saturday.

The wind-shaped trees along the promenade all lean away from the ocean.  I guess after years of blowing in the same direction it just started growing horizontally.  It is quite a sight, and worth having a look at when you are in our beautiful city.

All about dancing...

'You did it:
You changed wild lament
into whirling dance;
You ripped off my black mourning band
and decked me with wildflowers.
I'm about to burst with song;
I can't keep quiet about you.'

Prosper and succeed

Photographer unknown

'Be strong and very courageous.
Obey all the laws Moses gave you.
Do not turn away from them, and you will succeed in everything you do.

Study this book of the Law continually.  Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it.  Only then will you succeed.'  Joshua 1:7,8
