Dancing for joy!

Psalm 149:3

'Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

O Israel, rejoice in your Maker.
O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King.

PRAISE HIS NAME WITH DANCING,
ACCOMPANIED BY THE TAMBOURINE AND HARP.

For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with salvation.
Let the faithful rejoice in his honor...'

Winter Fun - Homemade paint brushes

I love creating things.
Whether it is a piece of clothing,  or maybe even something fun like these paintbrushes.  They teach children about different textures and it is fun to see the effect they have when dipped in paint and used for painting.

Nothing can seperate us from God's love

"What can we say about such wonderful things as these?
If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all,
wont God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else?"
Romans 9:31-32, NLT

Blowing off some steam

Yesterday I drove to Cape Town to blow off some steam, and to work on my creative side by taking some pictures of interesting things.  When I stopped in Town to take my first picture I realised there was something wrong with my car because it was steaming.

I then inspected the engine, and realised that something bad was happening as there was brown water running out from under the front of the car as well as the steam coming out the top.  So instead of me blowing off some steam, I ended up a bit more frustrated. I did get a fun picture from inside the tow truck of my 'Green bean', but I think his new name should be 'Green monster...'

What is the moral of my story you ask?   There isn’t one.  This one is for free.

Capturing a personality

Timing is everything.  Always have your camera with you to catch those moments...  Keep in mind the two in the tree were aiming those signs at me, and not at grandma there... Ha ha.

Do what is in your hands...

Tonight I was touched by what someone said, and I thought that I would write something encouraging.

‘Be kinder than necessary for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'  J.M. Barrie (Creator of Peter Pan)

'Live simply, love generously, care deeply and speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.'  Ronald Reagan

'Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It is learning to dance in the rain.’

For all cat lovers

I spent my holidays with my German family in South Africa. It was the first time that I met my niece and nephews. After several Uno games I can now honestly say that I cannot believe what I lost out on over the last 11 years…

The children saw this beautiful cat just outside our accommodation, but they did not think she was very friendly.  They would run up to her to play or cuddle and then she would ‘attack’ them…
We only saw the little kittens a few days later, and realized that she was being protective over her kittens.  Then we approached them a little slower and with food, and she would allow us a little closer,  but not too close!

Being like children

‘Let the children come to me.  Don’t stop them!  For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’  Matthew 18 v 2-5

The other day, on our way home from school we played a little game.  Spot Auntie Joline’s favorite car…  Audi!’ (‘TT’ specifically but the others will do just fine...)

So Darth Vader (a fictional name for the little boy I look after) was telling me that he would be an engineer when he grows up, and then he would design and build me my very own Audi and I would only have to pay half price because I am his Au pair.

Little Green Dress

About a year ago a friend asked me whether I had a dress for her to wear to a function.
I pulled out this one, which I actually made for myself for an upcoming trip to Mauritius.

She fell in love with it…
It was as if it was made specifically for her. So then what was supposed to be my dress became hers instead. That solved our problem, as she needed a dress quite urgently due to unforeseen circumstances.

The following picture is from a shoot, by Collective Dream Studios.

“Behind the scenes” of Vaughan Gardiner’s new music video, taken at Welbedacht, Schalk Burger and sons.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that she wore the dress to the music video, and I can't wait to see the video.

Animals, prints and golden oldies

The last couple of weeks have been hectic.

Between sewing and taking photos, I do some Au Pairing as well. This week I looked after a dear friend's dog, and house sat for them.  Wow, and I almost forgot about the blogging.  It is a full life indeed.

I sometimes buy a couple of meters fabric and think 'I could use it later...'
There are a few crates full already.

So I got to use some of them at last.
This animal print I made for a friend in Australia, and was sent it last week.  Hope it got there safely. I won't tell who its for and spoil the Christmas surprise.

The red printed top I made as a sample to show some shops, turns out I needed a red top for a Latino night.  Bonus.  Now I get to wear it.

The upside down cows and horses on this top was bought specially for my niece.  It took me a few months before I got to making it, but voila, its done at last.

Funny thing is that even though I make all these interesting things, it is rarely for myself.  I have inflammation in my ankle from all the sewing (which I honestly never thought could happen).  How ridiculous is that.  I will endeavor to make some for myself for Christmas and will blog about it.  Ha, no pressure....

My comfy golden oldies (almost like a second skin), take note that the ripped effect is not bought like that (like the ones you get in the shops these days), but it is well worn in.  Mail me some of your golden oldies, would love to see them.

Twighlight shoot

How do you make a formal dress for a very unique redhead?

No, its not the one from Twilight, this one is naturally red.

She is a teenager, skateboarder chick, with a lot of spirit (spunk).  See her creative skateboard below...

A dress fit for a wedding

This dress was one of my masterpieces. Just love creating something that makes the person it was created for look and feel amazing.
